Shulamit Sofia MSW has a background in mental health.
Trained at The University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and The
National Institute of Mental Health she has contributed to her helping
to thousands of people around the world using a combination of in crisis
support, solace, and soul strength. During her long career she has
worked as a social worker at several hospitals in NYC and Philadelphia
as well as a therapist at The Child Development Center in NYC. She has
also been a college professor at George Mason University, Pace
University, San Francisco State University and The New School for Social
Research. The founder of two nonprofit agencies (Parent’s Place and
Caring For Children) Shulamit Sofia has also been a trainer for
professional and para-professional social service staffs as well as a
seminar leader, international speaker, and writer. Using
psycho-spiritual growth principles with people of all ages she has
demonstrated ways of expanding one’s sense of well-being and a better
understanding of how to meet their circumstances with grace and
equanimity. A popular speaker at national (Child Welfare League of America) and international (World Federation of Mental Health) conferences, Shulamit Sofia also speaks to a wide variety of groups around the San Francisco Bay Area where she makes her home and where she teaches workshops and seminars to a wide variety of faith based and secular audiences. In addition, Shulamit Sofia, under the auspices of Caring For Children, a non-profit she founded and led for 28 years, developed a set of eight training manuals for use child welfare professionals such as police officers, detectives, homeless shelter and family court personnel etc. She has also written two manuals for parents, “How to Raise a Non-Violent Child” and “Parent Preparation Manual: Parenting in Difficult times”. In addition Shulamit Sofia wrote two art therapy books for children “Color Your Feelings” as well a “Psalms For a Sunny Day” a pamphlet of comforting psalms for times of crisis. Shulamit Sofia, a spiritual pilgrim from birth, has journeyed toward soul strength as her life’s purpose. She has been a serious spiritual seeker for nearly three decades, studying directly with the leading teachers of Jewish Mysticism: Rabbis Zalman Schacter-Shalomi, Lawrence Kushner, David Cooper, Alan Lew, Stephen Fisdel, Miles Krassen, as well as esteemed teacher Estelle Frankel. All these teachers are recognized authors whose books form part of the basic library of contemporary mystical Jewish thought. Within that context, she continues to teach her practical applications of Jewish mystical principles that form the content of Soul Strength Seminars. In addition she provides individual spiritual counseling to people of any religion or denomination and has reached multi-cultural participants both faith based and secular composed of a broad spectrum of ethnicities and religions. Shulamit Sofia has developed a universal perspective including a repertoire of soul strengthening techniques that include personal prayer, formal prayer, journaling, sacred dialogue, text study, yoga, and meditation. She now collaborates with a variety of artists and other seminar leaders to present her material in corporate, recreational, health and self-help seminar settings. |
